Vincent Bonitto attended Miami Dade Community College.  He began his career working in a warehouse. When he joined Southern Glazers, wine and spirits, he wanted to learn more about the corporate side of the business. He worked his way to a sales and marketing position with the company. He found the business rewarding and has been with them ever since.  He earned a promotion to management in 2012.  The management position gave him a place with a new marketing team.  Initially, there were many challenges to overcome. However, Vincent Bonitto is successful and valued as a member of an exceptionally well-trained team.

How did you get started with Southern Glazer, wine and spirits? What inspired you to do so?

I started working at a warehouse and I was introduced to the sales side of the business. I gained three-year experience in sales before I found a sales position with this company. I bridge the gap between the two companies. Setting up incentives for the sales force. I look at the data regarding trends.  I like analyzing the data and figuring out how and why trends. When the data and the numbers get together it all makes sense.

How do you make your day productive?

I try to stay in touch with all of my suppliers and partners. I have to make sure that I am aligned with what they want to accomplish for the year. Maintaining contact with suppliers and trading partners fills my day. I have to address any issues that may arise. I leave no stone unturned. I have to implement changes that have to adapt to align with their goals. I create innovative strategies and develop client relationships.  I develop individual services for each of our customers.

If you were going to give advice to anyone who is interested in getting into sales and marketing, what advice would you offer?

I would tell anyone getting into sales and marketing that they are going to get frustrated at first. They have to give themselves time to get a handle on it all. There is a lot to learn. They have to stick with it and become comfortable with what they are doing. It will take time to persevere and be goal oriented. Take one thing at a time and master the task and then move on. Just keep at it.

How do you maintain your focus on your goals? What strategies do you use?

If you don’t fail, you don’t succeed. You simply have to stay focused and do not let any failure defeat you. You have to have the determination to let it go until you master the project that you are working on. Learn from your failures and be persistent about getting it right. It is like giving up the game after the home-run, the game doesn’t stop, it follows through to the end of the last quarter of the ninth inning.  You have to just shake it off and keep pitching your game.

What do you think makes you successful?

I think what makes me the most successful is my determination. I set goals for myself.  I do not let anything deter me until I complete my goals. It may be a little discouraging if I do not reach those goals in what I see as the right timing. The right thing to do is to keep going. I teach my children the same thing. I have to live as an example for my children.  Life is not always easy but persistence will pay off in the long run.

What has been your most satisfying moment since in this industry for you?

The most satisfying moment with this company is when they promoted me from a sales position to management position. The promotion came about eight years ago. The executives of the company had confidence in me. They knew that I work hard and that I am persistent. I understood market trends. I learned how to analyze why market trends are what they are, and why they are now.

What excited most about that promotion?

What excited me most about the promotion was that I was selected from a very large field of candidates who were also competing for this position. I had applied for management positions at least three times prior to my success in gaining this management position. Not gaining a management position right off the bat, did not deter me from continuing to be aware of opportunities that presented themselves, and then going for it.

What does the future hold for you and what are you most excited about?

I have been with this company for over ten years. I have seen it grow exponentially. I believe there is future potential for continued growth for the company and within the company. I have enjoyed being a part of this companies growth. I want to continue to be a part of the continued growth process. I will continue to do my best to assist in the continued growth of the company is whatever way I can.

What books have inspired would you recommend.

12 Rules for Life by Jordan Peterson, he is a fantastic intellectual and I believe people should really listen to what he says.

I have just a statement of belief I wish to share:

No matter what your circumstance, don’t let your circumstance control you. You only have one life to live. You don’t have time to indulge in depression or anything similar. You have to be strong minded. Pray to God and have faith. If things do not turn out the way you though, then it was simply not your calling. It does not mean that you’re a failure. It just means that it is not the path that God selected for you.
