Phil Pustejovsky is the founder of the leading real estate mentoring company in the United States and Canada, Freedom Mentor, a company that has become famous for transforming brand new real estate hopefuls from all walks of life into first class, market leading investors through its innovative Freedom Mentor Apprentice Program.
The secret ingredient lies in its profit sharing arrangement whereby when a deal closes, the net profits are split 50/50. This aligns the interests of the mentor with the student creating more commitment and better results. In the process, it has completely transformed the way real estate investing education services are provided and Freedom Mentor reviews have been stellar amidst an industry with a bad reputation.
Phil has also authored a best selling book, How to be a Real Estate Investor, which has the highest viewed YouTube channel in real estate investing education history. Phil has personally participated in more than 1,000 real estate investment deals in the past 10 years. He has a deep passion for real estate investing, as well as helping others become successful investors and that’s why even today, he is actively in the business every day.
Please share your inspirational story with us.
It all began when I had just graduated from college, had just begun working in my first job and was reading books on becoming wealthy. Inspired by what the real estate investing books had to say, I quit my safe, secure 9 to 5 job to become a full time real estate entrepreneur.
It didn’t take long before I realized just how tough real estate could be. Eventually, my savings ran out and I was left with no other choice but to begin living out of my truck. I lived off a case of Bushes’ Baked beans for a month! I had reached rock bottom.
That’s where I found the Lord, too. I began attending church and gave my heart to Christ.
Meanwhile, I was trying desperately to put a deal together and that’s where I ran into the person who became my mentor. He happened to be in town for a few months while his mother went through cancer treatment and he wanted to do a deal on the side. He bought the deal I was trying to sell and with the money, I poured it right back into him becoming my mentor.
Our first deal together, without using any cash or credit, simply by using the techniques he taught me, we made over $56,000 and we split the profits 50/50. It was a game changer. And the rest, as they say, is history.
Was there anyone who helped inspire or support you?
Some ask me who my mentor is. He is a very private person and from the very beginning of our relationship, I committed to not sharing his name publicly. So, even today, I’m committed to his wishes of anonymity.
What have you learned from this experience?
I discovered that as iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another. It’s very difficult to succeed in real estate without a mentor. Perhaps a few people have done it, but I couldn’t.
Probably because some of the most important things you need to know about closing a real estate deal, you can’t learn in a book. You have to experience it and have a mentor by your side to show you what to do during those times.
How is your life different now?
I’m living the dream. No longer living out of my truck, I live in a huge house on the water in Florida, get to be with my family everyday and have a tremendous amount of freedom.
How do you hope your story will inspire others?
Perhaps it will give those who are discouraged hope that no matter where you are starting from, you can get to where you want to be. For others who want to simply go to the next level, I hope they gather from my experience the power of having a mentor.
Are you willing to be a mentor to others? If so, how would you like to be contacted?
That is exactly what Freedom Mentor does. We mentor people to become first class market leading real estate investors. And although what has been developed by the company is light years ahead of what was in place when my mentor helped me, the basic principles and concepts form the foundation. We share in the profits when deals close and that magic formula ensures that everyone’s equally committed to the success of the relationship.
