How did you get started in this business? What inspired you?

I had braces when I was in my teens and this is where my interest in orthodontics came from. It was remarkable to me that my teeth could be straightened over time with these braces. Not only that, but the experience of actually going to the orthodontist’s office, Dr. Rasmussen, was always a pleasant one. I remember the staff were exceptional and made the office environment truly welcoming and comfortable. It was these experiences and the encouragement from my family that led to me becoming an orthodontist.

My goal has always been to create an orthodontic care office similar to that of Dr. Rasmussen. One where patients feel welcome and their priorities are number one. We’ve accomplished this with Lee Orthodontics by ensuring that our orthodontic procedures aren’t painful and that they’re not overly long. We put the patient experience above all else and try to make sure it’s a visit they won’t forget. We make things fun by running events, having contests, and giving out prizes. Lee Orthodontics always tries to get involved in the community when possible by working with schools and donating to local charities.

When you were starting out, was there ever a time you doubted it would work? If so, how did you handle that?

It’s never easy when you’re first starting a business but if you stay true to yourself and your vision, you’ll succeed. For me, it was all about putting the patient first and creating an orthodontic experience that wasn’t like any other.

How did you get your first customer?

Word travels fast in a town like ours! It didn’t lake long before the whole town knew about Lee Orthodontics and the type of service that we offer.

What is one marketing strategy (other than referrals) that you’re using that works really well to generate new business?

Social media has been a really great tool for us. You can reach so many more people through platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn. It’s not just reaching people through these platforms through, it’s the ability to interact with them as well that makes it so influential.

What do you think it is that makes you successful?

The staff at Lee Orthodontics make the practice what it is. It didn’t take long for me to realize that I can’t do everything by myself and that I need to surround myself with people who share my vision and my values. That’s what I’ve done with my practice and I consider myself lucky to work with so many kind and driven employees who care for the patients.

What has been your most satisfying moment in business?

It may sound cliché, but every day is so overwhelmingly satisfying. Giving patients the gift of a beautiful smile is a feeling like no other. Sometimes people come to us and they never smile because of how self-conscious they feel. Once we’re done and they’re smiling again, it’s a really great feeling.

What is a recent purchase you have made that’s helped with your business?

We’re constantly updating our technology and our tools to make sure that our patients are receiving the best care possible. If a tool or piece of technology we use is no longer cutting it, it is replaced. It’s incredible how fast orthodontic technology evolves and how futuristic some of the equipment we’re using seems.

What is the best thing about your current job?

There are a bunch of things that make Lee Orthodontics the perfect business for me. We give people the gift of a smile! Aside from that, I get to work with the best staff in the business. Also, my business doesn’t keep me from my family and I get to go home to them at a reasonable hour. There is so much to love!
