What made you want to do the work you do? Please share the full story.

There’s a lot of factors that made me want to do the work that I do. Everyday is different and there’s a new challenge to overcome non-stop. You have to stay on top of what’s happening in the industry to keep everything on track. I also really enjoy seeing people develop and grow both in their professional and personal lives, and it’s very rewarding to see Ethos be a part of that. Roofing is a tough business and personal development is a must if you want to become successful and sustain success long-term.

Tell us 3 surprisingly easy and 3 surprisingly difficult things about your business.

I would say the access to knowledge and education is the easiest it’s been. Now actually learning and applying everything is a different story, but we’ve never had more access to quality information and knowledge. Outside of that, anything that is easily usually comes after years of hard work and consistency. In general, running the business has become easier due to the systems and processes we have put in place with the right people running them. However, that has taken years of of hard work, mistakes, and perseverance.

The hardest about the business would be navigating the rapid changes in our industry and staying ahead of the curve to best serve our clients. A close second would be staying on top of technology and what makes sense to implement in our business and what does not. The third hardest part is maintaining and understanding of what is happening with marketing in our space and taking advantage of what is working and eliminating what is not in an extremely competitive space.

What are the 3 things you like best about your work and why?

I really like that we get to see a tangible result to the work we put in for our customers. Their homes often times are damaged in need of updating when we step into the picture and helping bring their vision to reality is amazing. The exterior restoration process is daunting for a property owner and being able to utilize skills we’ve been developing for almost 2 decades to help them navigate the process is an awesome feeling.

Personal development is a huge part of our culture. Seeing our employees improve their lives is also amazing to see. Seeing them buy their first homes, grow their families, make investments, and achieve their goals really drives me as a business owner.

The fact that the industry is always changing and there is always a new challenge keeps things interesting without a doubt. It can get exhausting, however coming out the other side builds confidence for the next set of challenges, it is a game with no end.

What are the three things you need in work to achieve purpose? Why are they important to you?

I enjoy the work I do and what we have built, currently my main driver is seeing what is possible based on the foundation we have built as a team.

Tell us about a time where you saw a surprising outcome that you did not expect.

A surprising outcome that I did not expect recently was how our team handled an unprecedented amount of business from a violent 2023 storm season in the metro area. We did 3x the volume we had done historically and I was worried our systems would break with the volume. We were able to adapt as a team and navigate the new challenges that came our way successfully which was a huge confidence builder. The lessons we learned have made us a more efficient company with more capacity to give elevated service to our clients.

What is the biggest challenge you face each day and how do you handle it?

The biggest challenge I have daily is making the right decisions big and small that steer both my professional and personal life in the right direction regardless of what comes my way. I do that through mindfulness and trying not to make decisions emotionally while being aware of what has worked for me in the past as well as what mistakes I have made.

What do you value most and why?

What I value most is my family without a doubt.

What are 3 of your goals (could be mix of personal and professional)?

I am grateful to have had the opportunity to pursue and achieve a majority of the goals I have set for myself, as of now my focus is trying to be the best husband, dad, and leader I can be and not get caught up in chasing monetary goals.

What is your favorite book and why?

The most impactful book I have read is Evolve Your Brain by Joe Dispenza.

If you could go back 2 years and give yourself advice, what would it be?

If I could go back 2 years and give myself advice it would be to start being more conscious of how you eat, I am a big foodie, I like food a little too much!

Are you willing to be a mentor? If yes, what is the best way to reach you?

I don’t really have specific mentors per say, however I was lucky enough to have parents and grandparents that showed me the values of family, hard work, and persevering through hard times which has been the main driver in where I am at today.

I enjoy helping people with the desire to improve their situation and put in the work to improve, so yes, being a mentor is something I value. I can be reached at anest@ethosgc.com.

Just for fun, what is your favorite ice cream flavor?
