How did you get started in this business?

I was born into a family of movers, so you could say that the moving business has been in my blood since an early age. My parents owned a small moving company, and I started helping out during summer breaks and weekends when I was still in school. I learned the ins and outs of the industry, from packing and loading to transportation and logistics, and I developed a deep appreciation for the hard work and dedication that goes into making a successful move.

After completing my education, I decided to join my family business. I worked there for around 2 decades and then decided to open my own moving company, and that’s how Safeway Moving was born. I wanted to bring a fresh perspective to the industry and offer a higher level of service to customers. I knew that there was a real need for a professional, reliable moving company that people could trust with their most valuable possessions, and I was determined to fill that gap in the market. So, armed with the knowledge and experience I had gained over the years, I set out to create a company that would exceed people’s expectations and set new standards for the industry.

How do you make money?

As the founder of Safeway Moving, my company generates revenue by providing moving services to individuals and businesses. We charge our customers based on various factors such as the distance of the move, the size and weight of the items being moved, and the level of services they require. Additionally, we may offer additional services such as packing, unpacking, storage, and insurance, which can also contribute to our overall revenue. Our goal is to provide high-quality moving services that meet the needs and budgets of our customers while ensuring that we maintain a profitable business.

How long did it take for you to become profitable?

Startups usually take a few years to break even and start generating profits and Safeway Moving is no different. We heavily invested in research and development, marketing, and other essential aspects initially to grow our business and gain market share.

Safeway Moving took some time to establish itself and build a customer base. Once the company gained a reputation for quality moving services and began expanding its operations, profitability followed naturally.

When you were starting out, was there ever a time you doubted it would work? If so, how did you handle that?

Absolutely, there were many times when I doubted whether my moving company would be successful. Starting a business is always a risky endeavor, and there are always unknowns that can make you question whether you’re making the right decisions.

When I was first starting out, there were a lot of challenges I had to overcome, such as building a customer base, finding reliable employees, and managing cash flow. At times, it seemed like there was no way to make it all work, and I would question whether I was cut out to be an entrepreneur.

However, I’ve learned that doubts are a normal part of the entrepreneurial journey. It’s how you deal with those doubts that determines your success. When I faced doubts, I took a step back and evaluated the situation objectively. I would reassess my business plan, look for areas where I could improve, and seek advice from trusted mentors and colleagues.

Ultimately, I found that the key to overcoming doubts is persistence and a willingness to adapt. I remained committed to my vision, but I also recognized that sometimes, you have to pivot and make changes to stay competitive. By staying focused and adaptable, I was able to overcome my doubts and build a successful moving company.

How did you get your first customer?

As the founder of Safeway Moving, I vividly remember how we got our first customer. It was a referral from a satisfied customer from my family’s business. At the time, we were just starting, and we didn’t have any marketing or advertising budgets to promote our business.

Fortunately, we were able to make a great impression on our first client, and they were happy to recommend us to their family and friends. That referral brought in our first paying customer, and from there, we were able to build a reputation for ourselves as a reliable and efficient moving company.

What is one marketing strategy (other than referrals) that you’re using that works really well to generate new business?

One strategy that has proven to be effective for us is Search Engine Optimization (SEO). By optimizing our website and online content for relevant keywords related to moving and relocation services, we’ve been able to improve our search engine rankings and attract more traffic to our website.

Through SEO, we’re able to target potential customers who are actively searching for moving services in our area, and we can reach them at the exact moment they’re looking for a moving company. This strategy has helped us to generate a consistent stream of leads and convert them into paying customers.

What is the toughest decision you’ve had to make in the last few months?

I have faced tough decisions related to the growth and management of Safeway Moving, such as expanding the business, hiring new staff, investing in new technology or equipment, or making tough financial decisions.

What do you think it is that makes you successful?

I believe that my focus on providing exceptional customer service has been a significant contributor to my success. We understand that moving can be a stressful experience for our clients, and we go above and beyond to make the process as smooth and stress-free as possible. What has been your most satisfying moment in business?

What does the future hold for your business? What are you most excited about?

I am extremely optimistic about the future of our business. One of the things that I am most excited about is our continued focus on providing excellent customer service. We want to do everything we can to make moving as smooth and easy as possible. This means continuing to invest in our team, processes, and technology to ensure that we can provide the highest level of service to our customers.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

If I had the opportunity to advise my younger self, I would tell myself to take risks and not be afraid of failure. When you’re young, it’s easy to get caught up in the idea of having a stable and secure job, but sometimes taking calculated risks can lead to great rewards.
