Alon grew up around the construction field and has always had a special interest in architecture. It is no surprise then that he would be drawn to real estate and that he would naturally excel at it. Alon has shown that this skillset has given him an edge in his field because he has been a top performing agent for nearly 2 decades. He is driven and tenacious and does whatever it takes to get the job done whether buying or selling.

As the CEO of Rexford Realty, Alon sets the right example, and his team responds in kind. His work ethic drives a remarkably successful business. Rexford Realty has sold to A-list clients and currently has multiple million-dollar listings.

How did you get started in your industry?

Growing up I had developed an interest in construction and architecture. Real Estate allows me to have a career in which I am able to talk about my interests every day, so I opened Rexford Realty in 2004.

How do you make money in your field?

When I help a client either sell or buy a home, I receive a commission based on the final selling price of the home. Commission rates are typically around five or six percent but sometimes they may be negotiated at a different rate.

How long did it take for you to become profitable?

Since the second year, our business has been profitable.

When you were starting out, was there ever a time you doubted it would work? If so, how did you handle that?

Sure, in the beginning, I think everyone has doubts. In real estate especially because you are working in an environment that you don’t have complete control over. Sometimes the market just isn’t working in your favor, but you learn how to adapt and how to innovate. I learned that I actually enjoy problem solving. I look forward to taking on challenges.

Do you remember how you got your first client?

I believe it was a referral from a friend of mine.

What is one marketing strategy that you’re using that works really well to generate new business?

I am always looking for innovative ways of doing business that are mutually beneficial for both myself and my clients. For instance, I use a non-independent broker escrow company, Anytime Escrow which saves the client thousands on escrow fees. It is one more reason that clients will continue to choose Rexford Realty over the competition.

What is the toughest decision you’ve had to make in your professional life?

Timing can be a tough thing–trusting that you are making the right decision at the right time. The toughest was probably when I first decided to start Rexford Realty just because it was such a big decision.

What do you think it is that makes you successful?

I have chosen a career that I am passionate about and genuinely enjoy. That makes it easy to show up every day and work hard.

What has been your most satisfying moment in business?

Seeing how happy a person is when they find the home of their dreams is incredibly satisfying. A lot of times they will be so overwhelmed with joy that they will turn and give you a big hug. It’s a special moment in a person’s life that you get to share with them.

What does the future hold for your business? What are you most excited about?

I am most excited about the growth I foresee for Rexford Realty. I hope to open additional offices in the future and expand our working area.

What business books have inspired you?

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Take personal responsibility when you are wrong. Others will respect you much more when you are quick to do so. I wish I had learned this lesson a little sooner in life.
