How did you get into this business?

I began my journey in life coaching after realizing how philosophical insights from my studies in philosophy could be practically applied to help others navigate the complexities of life. This realization came while I was at the University of Hawaii, and it inspired me to start TLC Systems Inc., focusing on personal growth and mental health.

How do you make money?

My primary source of income comes from personal and group life coaching sessions. Additionally, I generate revenue through workshops, speaking engagements, and online courses that focus on Stoic philosophy, resilience, and personal development.

How long did it take for you to become profitable?

It took about two years to become profitable. Those initial years were crucial for building a solid reputation and refining my coaching programs to effectively meet the needs of my clients.

When you were starting out, was there ever a time you doubted it would work?

Absolutely, there were several moments of doubt, especially in the early stages. Launching a business centered on philosophical principles and personal development was challenging, but my passion for helping others and my belief in the transformative power of Stoicism kept me going.

How did you get your first customer?

My first client came through a referral from a former university peer who knew about my passion for philosophy and coaching. Word of mouth has been incredibly powerful for my business from the start.

What is one marketing strategy that works well to generate new business?

One effective strategy has been hosting free introductory workshops on topics related to personal growth and resilience. These sessions provide value upfront, allowing potential clients to experience the benefits of my coaching style and philosophy before committing to a paid program.

What is the toughest decision you’ve had to make in the last few months?

The toughest decision was choosing to pivot some of our in-person workshops to an online format. Adapting to the digital space was necessary to continue supporting our clients effectively amidst changing circumstances.

What do you think makes you successful?

I believe my success stems from a genuine passion for what I do and my commitment to living the principles I teach. My approach is deeply rooted in authenticity and a sincere desire to make a positive impact on the lives of others.

What has been your most satisfying moment in business?

The most satisfying moment was receiving feedback from a long-term client who managed to overcome significant personal challenges and achieve their life goals through our coaching sessions. Knowing I had a role in their transformation was profoundly fulfilling.

What does the future hold for your business?

The future looks promising with plans to expand our online presence and offer more diversified online courses that can reach a global audience. I’m also looking into developing a community platform where clients can support each public and continue their growth outside of sessions.

What business books have inspired you?

“Man’s Search for Meaning” by Viktor E. Frankl has been hugely inspirational, although not strictly a business book. It offers profound insights into human behavior and resilience which are crucial for any leader. Also, “Meditations” by Marcus Aurelius has been a cornerstone in shaping my Stoic approach to life and business.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

I would advise my younger self to worry less about the outcomes and focus more on the process. Embrace each challenge as an opportunity to learn and grow, and remember that resilience is built through facing and overcoming difficulties.

Are you willing to be a mentor?

Absolutely, I am always eager to mentor young entrepreneurs and individuals interested in philosophy and life coaching. Sharing knowledge and supporting others in their journey is one of the most rewarding aspects of my career.
