My interest in real estate was sparked by my family’s involvement in property investment. Growing up, I was surrounded by discussions about real estate, which naturally drew me into the field. In 2002, I pursued this passion professionally, building on the knowledge and insights I gained from my family’s experiences. This background provided a solid foundation, allowing me to understand market dynamics and investment strategies from an early age.

As the principal broker of William Young Real Estate LLC and William Young Properties LLC, what factors have contributed to your success in managing residential and commercial properties?

Success in managing residential and commercial properties comes from strategic planning, a keen understanding of market trends, and strong relationships with clients and contractors. I ensure that our properties meet high standards and client expectations by staying attuned to the market’s needs and maintaining a hands-on approach. My private investing and multi-family ownership background also helps me make informed decisions that benefit our portfolio.

You’ve mentioned the importance of strategic planning in real estate development. Can you elaborate on how adopting a long-term view during the master planning phase can help reduce costs and ensure project adaptability?

Adopting a long-term view during the master planning phase helps to foresee future needs and avoid costly redesigns. By planning thoroughly and considering potential future developments, we can create adaptable and resilient projects. This approach minimizes the need for expensive modifications down the line, ensuring the project remains cost-effective and efficient from start to finish.

Your expertise extends to private investing and multi-family ownership. What advice would you give to new investors looking to enter the real estate market in these areas?

For new investors, start with thorough market research and understand the local real estate landscape. Focus on properties that offer long-term value and potential for appreciation. Building a network of experienced professionals, including brokers, contractors, and property managers, is crucial. Be patient and strategic, prioritizing quality investments over quick returns.

How has your military background influenced your approach to leadership and management in the real estate industry? Can you provide examples of how these skills have been beneficial?

My military background instilled discipline, resilience, and a strong work ethic. These traits have been invaluable in real estate, especially in high-pressure situations. For example, during complex negotiations or project management, I rely on my ability to stay focused and lead teams effectively. The leadership skills I developed in the military helped me inspire and motivate my team to achieve our goals.

You emphasize using Technology to enhance efficiency and reduce costs in real estate development. What are some of the most effective technologies you’ve implemented, and how have they impacted your projects?

We’ve implemented technologies like Building Information Modeling (BIM) and project management software, which streamline processes and improve accuracy. These tools allow us to visualize projects in detail and identify potential issues before construction begins, saving time and reducing costs. Automation in construction processes also enhances efficiency, ensuring we meet deadlines and stay within budget.

As a member of the Capital Board of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors, how do you stay updated with industry trends and regulations, and how do these memberships benefit your professional practice?

Membership in these organizations informs me about industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes through regular updates, seminars, and networking events. These resources are invaluable for staying ahead in the real estate market. The credibility and connections gained from these memberships also enhance my professional practice, allowing me to serve clients better.

You have a diverse educational background with degrees in Criminal Justice and Liberal Arts. How have your studies in these fields contributed to your real estate career, particularly in problem-solving and strategic planning?

My education in Criminal Justice and Liberal Arts honed my analytical, research, and communication skills. These abilities are crucial in real estate for negotiating deals, resolving conflicts, and developing strategic plans. The legal knowledge from my studies helps me navigate regulatory aspects, while my liberal arts background enhances my ability to understand and connect with clients from diverse backgrounds.

Your involvement in sports, particularly hockey, spans over forty years. How has your experience as a referee and coach influenced your teamwork and leadership skills in your professional life?

Hockey has taught me the value of teamwork, discipline, and strategic thinking. As a referee and coach, I’ve learned to make quick, fair decisions and lead by example.
