How did you get started as an entrepreneur?
I started my career in telecommunications, working for a few phone carriers right out of college. In 2004-2005, I decided to start my own telecommunications company, which turned out to be highly profitable, especially in the voice business. As equipment prices dropped, I saw an opportunity to expand in the market, and that led to significant growth. This was my first experience as an entrepreneur, running my own telecom company.
How do you generate revenue as an entrepreneur?
We started generating business and making money almost immediately. We invested heavily in advertising from the beginning, and once we started bringing in leads, the key challenge was converting those leads into sales. While attracting leads was one thing, effectively communicating with them and turning them into customers was the next crucial step. We focused on mastering this process to handle it on a large scale.
How long did it take you to start making money as an entrepreneur?
We had already mastered Facebook marketing by the time we started our business. Facebook ads were crucial in acquiring our first customer. We initially created some basic videos, and although they weren’t perfect and faced skepticism from naysayers, we put in a lot of effort to improve them. Our persistence paid off, and our first customers came in through our Facebook advertising.
When you were starting out, was there ever a time you doubted it would work? If so, how did you handle that?
I didn’t doubt that our approach would work, even though any business, especially in healthcare, faces bumps along the road. We were good at pivoting and making the right moves as needed. By staying informed about market trends, talking to people, and making informed decisions, we adapted our marketing strategies. I was confident because our marketing methods, successful in other industries, were adaptable to healthcare and weight loss. It took time and patience to see results, but I remained hopeful and pleased with the way things developed. Overall, while there were challenges, we managed them well and proved that our approach could succeed.
What is one marketing strategy (other than referrals) that you’re using that works really well to generate new business?
The key is in the advertisements—creating effective and innovative creatives that highlight our strengths and customer service. By showcasing our best features and finding the right audience, we can effectively communicate our value and achieve great results.
Once we’ve refined our approach and understood what it takes to engage potential customers, the focus shifts to grabbing their attention and differentiating ourselves.
Reputation is crucial, so we prioritize our reviews and customer service, ensuring someone is available 24/7 and implementing escalation groups for complex issues. Combining excellent service with effective creatives that capture attention and setting clear expectations forms our winning strategy.
What is the toughest decision you’ve had to make in the last few months?
One of the toughest decisions is about trust—deciding who to partner with or work with, whether it’s vendors or other business associates. Building trust is crucial, but it’s also important to stay cautious, as you might face setbacks or disappointments. Trusting your instincts and ensuring that the decision to work with someone is the right one, rather than just a difficult choice, is key.
What do you think it is that makes you successful?
Being realistic and educated is definitely a key factor in my success. I’m not risk-averse, but I understand the need to balance risk with a thorough understanding of the market. In the weight loss industry, for example, recognizing its vast scope and the widespread need helps in making informed decisions and targeting the right solutions effectively.
What has been your most satisfying moment in business?
The most satisfying moments come from seeing the results of hard work. It’s incredibly rewarding to see your efforts pay off, to watch sales grow, and to see your bank account reflect success. Reaching milestones and surpassing goals that once seemed out of reach is particularly gratifying. Reflecting on how far you’ve come over the years and realizing the progress you’ve made is what makes all the effort worthwhile.
What does the future hold for your business? What are you most excited about?
I’m most excited about our work in healthcare. Every day, we’re building something brick by brick, and I’m thrilled about bringing on more clients and continually improving what we do. It feels like we’re feeding a growing machine that’s really gaining momentum. Being part of an industry that’s expanding rapidly and making a real difference in people’s lives is incredibly motivating. I’m eager to keep growing and staying at the forefront of this field.
Seeing the positive impact on people’s lives is incredibly satisfying. It’s amazing to read reviews and stories about how individuals have transformed their lives, losing significant amounts of weight and improving their overall well-being. While we provide the tools and support, the real change comes from the individuals who are willing to make the commitment. It’s gratifying to be part of that journey and witness such profound changes.
What business books have inspired you?
Think and Grow Rich and The Tipping Point are great choices! Both books offer valuable insights into success and how unconventional thinking can lead to breakthroughs. They definitely push the boundaries of how we view strengths and weaknesses.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
If I could give advice to my younger self, I’d say: don’t give up. Even when you feel dismayed by chasing ideas that don’t seem to work out, remember that there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel. It’s important to stay hopeful and persistent because there’s always potential for great success. Keep pushing forward, because even if it feels like you’re going in circles, there are always opportunities out there if you keep striving.
