Congratulations on being elected President of SABA-LV! What does this role mean to you?

Thank you! Serving as President of SABA-LV is an honor. The position allows me to give back to the South Asian community that has supported me throughout my career. My goal is to advance SABA-LV’s mission of promoting diversity, creating opportunities, and addressing challenges faced by South Asian legal professionals. It’s an opportunity to build an inclusive platform where aspiring attorneys can connect, learn, and thrive. This role represents the culmination of years of dedication to the legal profession and the broader community, and I’m excited to make a positive impact.

How has your experience on the SABA-LV Board prepared you for this role?

My time on the SABA-LV Board since 2019 was a great learning experience. I participated in initiatives that raised over $72,000 for scholarships and grants for supporting minority law students. This work taught me the importance of financial support in creating access to education and mentorship. I’ve collaborated closely with community leaders and witnessed firsthand the transformative power of our efforts. These experiences have helped shape my leadership approach and prepared me to guide SABA-LV’s growth, ensuring we continue supporting South Asian legal professionals.

What are your key priorities as President of SABA-LV?

My main priority is to significantly expand SABA-LV’s membership across Las Vegas’s legal landscape. My priorities include expanding mentorship programs, increasing scholarship opportunities, and fostering collaboration within the South Asian legal community. I aim to build stronger partnerships with law schools and organizations to create pathways for aspiring attorneys. Enhancing professional development initiatives and hosting knowledge-sharing forums are also on the agenda. Additionally, I am committed to advocating for equal access to justice by bridging the gap between legal professionals and underserved communities. SABA-LV has a strong foundation, and I’m determined to amplify its impact.

Why is mentorship so crucial for the legal profession?

Mentorship is pivotal because it bridges the gap between experience and ambition. The legal field can be daunting, especially for underrepresented individuals. Mentors provide guidance, share knowledge, and inspire confidence. I’ve benefited from mentors who helped me navigate challenges and seize opportunities. Through mentorship, we uplift individuals and create a ripple effect of empowerment within the community. It’s about building a legacy of support and ensuring the next generation of attorneys is well-prepared to succeed.

How does your background in intellectual property law influence your leadership approach?

My background in intellectual property law has taught me the value of innovation, strategy, and resilience. Representing diverse clients—from Fortune 500 companies to new startups—requires adaptability and creative problem-solving. These skills translate seamlessly into leadership. I approach challenges strategically, always seeking solutions that align with long-term goals. Intellectual property law also emphasizes the importance of protecting what matters, which mirrors my commitment to safeguarding and advancing the interests of the South Asian legal community.

What challenges do you see for South Asian attorneys, and how can SABA-LV address them?

South Asian attorneys sometimes face challenges like underrepresentation, implicit bias, and limited access to leadership opportunities. SABA-LV is uniquely positioned to tackle these issues by fostering community, advocating for diversity, and providing resources for professional growth. By amplifying the voices of South Asian attorneys and creating mentorship and networking opportunities, we can help them overcome barriers. It’s also essential to educate the broader legal community about the value of diversity, which enriches decision-making and strengthens the profession.

What drives your passion for promoting diversity in the legal field?

Diversity enriches the legal profession by bringing varied perspectives, experiences, and ideas. As someone who immigrated to the U.S. alone as a teenager, I understand the importance of inclusion and opportunity, in a way that is fair for all. Promoting diversity ensures that individuals from all backgrounds can contribute meaningfully and be included in leadership roles. This isn’t just about fairness; it’s about creating a stronger, equitable legal system. My passion stems from a desire to break down barriers and pave the way for others to succeed.

Can you share a memorable moment from your career that shaped your perspective?

One defining moment was when I successfully represented a small business owner in a trademark infringement case. This client was up against a major corporation, and the odds seemed stacked against them. We achieved a favorable outcome by simplifying complex legal concepts and crafting a strategic approach. This experience reinforced my belief in the importance of access to justice. It also highlighted the impact of strong advocacy, which inspires my work in intellectual property law and community leadership.

Outside of work, what hobbies and interests keep you grounded?

Scuba diving is my big passion. Exploring underwater worlds is both exhilarating and meditative—it teaches me the vastness and beauty of our planet. I’m also an adventurous foodie, constantly seeking unique culinary experiences and discovering new restaurants during my travels. Mentorship is another meaningful pursuit; I find great joy in guiding thevaspiring younger generation. These activities keep me balanced, providing opportunities to recharge and reflect while meaningfully connecting with people and places.

What is your vision for SABA-LV’s future under your leadership?

My vision is cultivating a vibrant and inclusive legal community that empowers South Asian attorneys to thrive. This includes expanding programs that address professional development, mentorship, and financial needs through scholarships. I want SABA-LV to be a platform that supports its members and contributes to broader diversity in the legal field. We can build a legacy of excellence and equity by fostering collaboration and creating growth opportunities. Together, we will make a lasting impact on the profession and the communities we serve.
