Can you share a bit about your background and what inspired you to pursue a career in dentistry?
Absolutely! My journey into dentistry began with my studies at Oxford Dental College in India, after which I advanced my education at the University of Colorado. The inspiration came from my personal experiences with dental trauma. I realized the profound impact that skilled and compassionate dental care can have on a person’s life. This fueled my passion to ensure that others receive the care and education they need for optimal oral health. Dentistry, for me, is not just a profession but a means to serve and uplift communities by making dental health accessible and comprehensive.
What has been the most rewarding aspect of being a dentist for you?
The most rewarding aspect of my work is witnessing the transformation in my patients’ lives. Whether it’s alleviating pain through a root canal or enhancing their smile with restorative techniques, seeing the joy and relief on a patient’s face is incredibly fulfilling. Additionally, being able to contribute to their long-term health and confidence through education and preventative care is something I deeply cherish. My role at Monticciolo Family and Sedation Dentistry allows me to integrate my knowledge of advanced dental practices with a compassionate approach, which has led to improved patient outcomes and satisfaction.
What common dental issues do you encounter most frequently among your patients?
Some of the most common dental issues I encounter include cavities, gum disease, and issues stemming from poor oral hygiene. Many patients also struggle with anxiety about dental visits, which is why I’m working towards my sedation certification to make their experience more comfortable. Using modern dental technologies, I can provide precise diagnostics and treatment plans, which helps address these concerns effectively.
How often should individuals visit their dentist for optimal oral health?
Ideally, individuals should visit their dentist at least twice a year for routine check-ups and cleanings. These visits are crucial not only for maintaining oral hygiene but also for catching any potential issues early on. Regular appointments allow us to monitor and maintain oral health, provide necessary interventions, and educate patients on the best practices for care at home.
If you could give one piece of advice to someone considering a career in dentistry, what would it be?
My advice would be to approach dentistry with a mindset centered on continuous learning and empathy. Dentistry is a field that constantly evolves with new technologies and methods. Staying updated with these advancements, like through CE courses, is crucial in providing the best care. Equally important is developing a genuine sense of empathy and patience, as these qualities help build trust and rapport with patients, leading to a more fulfilling practice.
