I had to create the billion dollar thing to make the impact I’m looking to make.
Amy Broadnax, widely known as the “Mortgage Mermaid,” has over 25 years of experience in the mortgage industry, working across various sectors including banks, private lenders, direct lenders, subprime lenders, and non-QM mortgage companies. Her extensive expertise has positioned her as a trusted advisor and difference-maker in the real estate and financial sectors.

Born in 1979, Amy quickly rose to prominence in the 1990s for a groundbreaking class action suit against the state of Texas’s Coke County Juvenile Justice Facility in Bronte Texas, notably leading to the bankruptcy of Wackenhut Private Prisons. Amy’s relentless pursuit of justice and fairness has been a cornerstone of her career. She is dedicated to improving relations between private and public entities, ensuring that truth, justice, and fairness are upheld.

Amy’s advocacy work extends beyond the courtroom. As an former precinct captain & organizer for the Southern California ACLU & chapter chair for the Taylor Texas Inmate Families Association, she’s consistently fought for the rights of the underrepresented. Her academic background in criminal justice, specifically studying police training, underscores her commitment to reforming law enforcement practices. Amy’s lobbying efforts have influenced policy changes in California, including the implementation of an AI detection tool in police patrol systems to identify patterns of racism in traffic stops.

Amy’s contributions have not gone unnoticed, yet she remains humble about her achievements. She believes in earning recognition through genuine impact rather than paid promotions, confident that her reach and influence will naturally place her among the ranks of top influencers.
Currently, Amy is spearheading the Haunted Texas Theme Park and USA History Preservation Project, a billion-dollar initiative aimed at addressing systemic racial and justice issues.

1. Being able to get a lot of work done virtually.

What are the 3 things you like best about your work and why?

Breaking barriers for women in several areas.
Knowing I’m making history as a women.
Knowing I’m going to open now doors for women when I obtain funding.

What are your greatest 3 skills and how have they helped you succeed?

I’m great a team building, reading people and bringing the best out of others.
My new CFO took his first female led startup to $250 rev! My team is always sending me messages or calling me to tell me how happy they are to be part of this project. Trusting my team to pull their weight because they know what my expectations are. I’m clear about communication and making sure my vision is understood.

Tell us about a time where you saw a surprising outcome that you did not expect.

We created a job posting and found two CFOs that were amazing so we hired them both. One took a company to $250M it’s first year, the other raised $8B for MGM!

What is the biggest challenge you face each day and how do you handle it?

Going to bed. Aiming to be a unicorn company of 2024 makes it hard to sleep at night when you’re not at the finish line yet.

What is a habit you try to stick to and how has it helped you?

A positive mindset makes all the difference in the world. I have to keep negative people away from me. I lost all my old “friends” and they’ve all been replaced with better people.

What are 3 of your goals (could be mix of personal and professional)?

Become a unicorn company of 2024.
Fall in love this year.
Change everyone on my teams life and surprise them with Teslas and homes.

Who is your favorite motivational speaker and why?

Gary Vee, cause he says “Fck” a lot. It REALLY helps me alot too. LOL

If you do charity or volunteer work, what is it and why do you do it?

I am creating a billion-dollar business that will fully fund selected non-profit organizations programs because half ass help doesn’t help anybody.

Who has been your biggest mentor in life (personal or professional) and how have they helped you?

Penny Raney, she helped me believe in myself again and she won’t let me quit. She helped me win a multimillion dollar case in the 90’s and now she’s my general counsel and best friend.

Just for fun, what is your favorite ice cream flavor?

Rocky Road & Mint & Chip. I must eat them both at the same time so I get a scoop of each. Thanks to my grandpa spoiling me when I was little.
