How did you get started in your career? What inspired you to choose this path?
It sort of just happened in my life. My daughter signed with a kids agency six years ago and I did her headshots. The agency loved them, and I became one of the preferred photographers on their list. The rest is history.
How do you make money?
As a Headshot, Portfolio and Fashion Photographer and Videographer.
How long did it take for you to become profitable?
I was profitable in my second year as a Photographer.
When you were starting out, was there ever a time that you doubted it would work? If so, how did you handle it?
Yes, I still do many times – The worst thing is to compare yourself to other professionals and try and find your niche. You should always feel confident and accept your style. Don’t change your style because other professionals are doing something different. Just stick to what you know and always evolve. Photography is the art of studying light—once you know that, you will create amazing things.
How did you get your first client?
I was listed as a preferred Photographer at a kids agency, and after seeing my work on my website, the client contacted me to book.
What is the toughest decision that you’ve had to make in the last few months?
Work-wise it was to revamp, to rebrand, and to grow. Sometimes you have to step back so you can move forward. Sometimes you have to let things and people go, understand that changing is part of the process to evolve, and get better at what you do. It’s been a good year in that aspect as a lot of things happened that have made me a better person and professional. I am ready for the next level of my career.
What do you think it is that makes you successful?
Consistency. You know what you will get when you book with me. Quality.
What has been your most satisfying moment in your career?
There have been many—I love what I do. Every new shoot is an exciting shoot for me.
What does the future hold for you?
I have many plans. I will continue with photography, but I want to do more videography and fashion work. I also want to mentor photographers starting in this industry—not a “by the book” kind of mentoring, perhaps something more artistic, but I’m still working on that.
What are you most excited about?
I’m always excited about new projects, about creating and meeting people.
What books have inspired you?
I absolutely LOVE the works of Annie Leibovitz and Peter Lindbergh.
What is a recent purchase that you have made that’s helped with your career?
A Cinema Camera—I am excited about using it a lot in 2019.
