How do you make money?

I make money as a personal trainer, helping clients achieve their health and fitness aspirations.

How long did it take for you to become profitable?

It took me about a year to start gaining momentum and earning a profit. Once I had a few steady clients, they started referring me to their friends and family and things started to stabilize for me.

When you were starting out, was there ever a time you doubted it would work? If so, how did you handle that?

I never doubted that I could be successful; however, I knew I might have to approach marketing in different ways until I could connect with the right people.

How did you get your first customer?

I hosted a free fitness and nutrition workshop for people trying to lose weight. I was able to connect with people and listen to their challenges and struggles. I earned their trust and was able to demonstrate my knowledge and ability. That’s how I gained my first client.

What is one marketing strategy (other than referrals) that you’re using that works really well to generate new business?

The workshops mentioned previously have been a great way for me to get in touch with members of the community. I always make sure my presentations are well-structured and provide excellent, up to date information. People usually come up to me after the seminar and tell me about their story and their struggles. This is a great way for me to connect with my customers and start a relationship from the start.

What is the toughest decision you’ve had to make in the last few months?

I had to decide to take a step back from training clients one-on-one so I could focus on developing my online training platform. Clients will be able to log into their portal and we can share documents, track progress, and have training sessions online. This has been a huge endeavor, and will be live soon! Sometimes we have to slow down to speed up.

What do you think it is that makes you successful?

My persistence. I never give up and do not take failure as an option. I believe obstacles are just lessons to learn that will make us better. I try to keep a positive outlook as much as possible and visualize my goals.

What has been your most satisfying moment in business?

I have been working with a woman in her 60s, and seeing her do a push up for the first time in years was truly inspirational. We set a goal, and worked at it until she could finally support herself and achieve her goal! That’s what makes my work so fulfilling – seeing the results first-hand.

What does the future hold for your business? What are you most excited about?

The online portal I am working on should be a big shift for my business. Clients will have access to a forum, recorded videos, nutrition information, etc. I can also work with clients even when they are traveling, and I can expand my customer base to other cities and countries. I am very excited to launch!
